In the wake of a long weekend that saw booming tourist destination Siargao packed with visitors, numerous posts on social media lamented the apparent indiscriminate littering on the island, even along the shoreline.

This was not lost on some celebrities who enjoyed the surfing hotspot during the Holy Week — among them Kapamilya stars Bela Padilla and Maris Racal, and model Lauren Reid.

Each of them took part in a coastal clean-up organized by local groups, including Siargao Environmental Awareness (SEA) Movement, Sun Crew Siargao, Bayud Botique Resort, and Gwapitos Apparel.

The organizers shared photos of the celebrities during the clean-up, including Reid with at least eight sacks full of trash. In her own Instagram post, the sister of heartthrob James Reid noted that her shift’s collected trash covered only 500 meters of the beach, and excluded the main tourist area.
